Village Hall FAQs

Q: Who runs Dorridge Village Hall?
A: Dorridge Village Hall is run by a group of UNPAID VOLUNTEERS. This is called the Dorridge Village Hall Association, which is composed of members of regular user groups and other volunteers. The Association is controlled by a Management Committee, elected from the members, and the hall is run on a day-to-day basis by a small executive group of the elected Honorary Officers. The Association employs third party organisations to run the bar, to carry out regular cleaning and other tasks including waste disposal.

Q: When is the Hall available for hire?
A: The Hall may be hired between 09:00 am and 00:00 midnight, 7 days a week. Firm bookings are always displayed on our calendar.

Q: How many people can Dorridge Village Hall accommodate?
A: That depends – see information on capacity here.

Q: How many chairs and tables do you have, and what are they like?
A: We have approximately 150 padded chairs and 25 tables. Click here for a picture.

Q: How are bar services provided?
A: Licensed bar services are franchised to Mark Gregory, from Silhill Brewery, who is our Designated Premises Supervisor (see Solihull Council Licensing Act Applications). Bar services are operated independently of Dorridge Village Hall Association. For more information contact Mark on 07977 444 564.

Q: What other services are available?
A: Catering, discos and other services can be chosen independently by the customer.

Q: What is the capacity of the cooker?
A: The cooker is larger than a standard domestic model, and has five gas rings and a gas oven. (For further details click here). However, it does have limits to its capacity for catering on a large scale. In particular, heating and cooking food from cold may take longer than you might expect at home. You may need to allow for this in your planning. If in doubt, please ask our Booking Secretary for advice.

Q: Is there WIFI in the Hall
A: There is Wi-Fi throughout the hall and meeting room and the password will be found at various points in the building.

Q: Why are you using a booking system
A: The hall is very busy and our volunteers spend too much time handling queries about bookings. We hope that having an online booking system will make it quicker and easier for hirers to make booking requests on their own and that the invoicing will be faster and more accurate.

Q: Is the hall Eco-Friendly?
A: The hall management committee takes every opportunity to access grants to make the hall energy efficient and is working with Solihull Council to contribute towards their Net Zero Action Plan.
